CareNow Foundation, Inc. Announces Newly Appointed Board Members
Local doctors to help foundation fulfill its mission

Westlake Village, CA (June 7, 2006) - Ed Bjurstrom, founder of CareNow Foundation, Inc., has invited Donna L. Masterman, MD and John A. Horton, MD to join the CareNow Board of Directors. “In selecting initial board members for CareNow, it was important to seek out individuals with influence and insight in the medical and nonprofit arenas,” said Bjurstrom.  “Masterman and Horton more than met this criteria and I am confident they will serve this board well.”

As board members for CareNow, Masterman and Horton will be responsible for ensuring the following:

  • Fulfillment of CareNow’s Mission and Purpose, which is to provide essential healthcare to the world’s least served;
  • Effective organizational planning;
  • Adequate and effective management of resources;
  • Monitoring the organization’s programs and services; and
  • A positive public image for the organization. 

Masterman is currently an associate medical director in Amgen’s early development program.  Prior to joining Amgen, Masterman served as an associate clinical professor of Neurology at the University of California, Los Angeles.  She holds a Bachelor of Science degree from UC Davis and MD and MS degrees from the University of Washington. 

Horton has been in private practice of medicine and preventive medicine in Malibu, California and Westlake Village, California since 1992. He was a volunteer with Basutoland Socio-Medical Services, Maseru, Lesotho; a flying doctor service in southern Africa; founder and clinical director of the Prem Nagar Medical Services, Hardwar, India; and an associate professor of the Family Practice Department at the University of Southern California School of Medicine.
