Walk for Africa
Planned on May 17 to Raise
Funds for Medical Clinic

Mobile clinic to be purchased for
tiny village in Zambia

Santa Monica, CA (April 23, 2008) – Imagine having to walk up to three hours to receive medical attention. For the people who live in a tiny village in a rural area called Sinazongwe on the shores of Lake Kariba in Zambia this is a cruel reality. And, as a result many of them die from simple illnesses. On May 17, Neely Kasra of Santa Monica, along with CareNow Foundation, is launching Walk for Africa to symbolize the plight of this village and their walk for life. "We want to raise awareness about this horrific situation and raise funds to purchase a mobile clinic that will bring medical professionals and supplies to the people in this Zambia village," said Neely Kasra, organizer of Walk for Africa. "I have so much gratitude for life and felt compelled to give something back and I am hoping my action is a call to action for others to make a difference."

Walk for Africa will begin at 9:00 a.m. from the Palisades Park in Santa Monica. Participates have the option of walking a four or six mile designated route around the park area.  "CareNow is excited about the opportunity to sponsor this important and worthwhile event.  It is a perfect fit for our mission, which is to provide essential healthcare to the least served people globally." said Ed Bjurstrom, founder of CareNow Foundation.

Kasra and her husband Shahin will be traveling to Africa in July with CareNow and plans to purchase the mobile clinic at that time. "Our goal is to make Walk for Africa an annual event, in conjunction with CareNow and our other sponsor, Santa Monica Acura.  The need is so great in this region and we want to commit long term to providing much needed medical assistance." said Kasra.
